Belagavi Police Introduce One-Way Traffic System Near Fort Road

In an effort to tackle increasing traffic congestion in one of the city’s busiest commercial stretches, police in Belagavi have announced the implementation of a one-way traffic system on key roads near Fort Road, close to the Central Bus Stand.

As per the new arrangement, vehicles will be allowed to move from West to East starting at Deshpande Petrol Pump towards Mujavar. In the opposite direction, traffic will be permitted from East to West from Jijamata Circle towards Deshpande Petrol Pump. The revised system aims to regulate vehicle flow and reduce bottlenecks in the area.

The decision follows a series of discussions with local traders, who have long expressed concerns over traffic jams affecting both business activity and daily commuting. Fort Road, known for its dense concentration of shops and heavy pedestrian movement, frequently experiences congestion due to mixed traffic flow.

Police officials conducted on-ground assessments before finalizing the plan, including travelling along the proposed routes to better understand real-time challenges. Authorities stated that a significant majority of residents and traders supported the move.

Police Commissioner Borase Bhushan Gulabrao said the initiative reflects a collaborative approach between the police and the public. He also noted that similar traffic management decisions in the future will be taken after consulting local stakeholders.
