In anticipation of high-octane celebrations surrounding the TATA IPL 2026 Cricket Final, the Belagavi City Police department has issued a strict public advisory to maintain peace, law, and order across the city.
The mandatory guidelines come immediately after Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) qualified for the highly anticipated championship match scheduled for May 31, 2026.
The official press release from the Office of the Commissioner of Police, Belagavi City, emphasizes that public safety remains a collective responsibility.
The security directives, as seen in the official notices outline several strict prohibitions and heavy penalties for violators:
- Ban on Public Celebrations: No public celebrations of any kind will be permitted on the streets or public areas after the match results are announced.
- LED Screening Restrictions: Installing outdoor LED walls facing roads without prior permission from corporation authorities is strictly prohibited. Broadcasting the match on existing outdoor LED walls is also completely banned.
- Zero Tolerance for Stunts & Rallies: Bike rallies, speeding, performing stunts, misusing horns, and creating road blockades are completely barred.
- Safety & Social Media Protocols: The bursting of firecrackers is banned. Citizens are also warned against sharing provocative posts, hate speech, or rumors on social media, and are urged not to engage in fights with opposing teams’ fans.
Heavy Fines and Jail Time for Drunk Driving
To curb unruly behavior, the Belagavi City Police have deployed specialized “Anti-Stabbing Squads” to check for lethal weapons.
On-duty police officers will be equipped with Body-Worn Cameras and 15 breath analyzers (alcometers) to execute widespread drink-and-drive checkpoints.
Motorists caught driving under the influence of alcohol will face severe consequences under the Motor Vehicles (M.V.) Act:
- First-time offenders: A strict fine of ₹10,000 and an imprisonment term of up to 6 months.
- Repeat offenders: The penalty escalates to a ₹15,000 fine, up to 2 years of imprisonment, and the permanent cancellation of their driving license.
Local authorities have requested full cooperation from the public to ensure that the cricket festivities do not compromise the peace and safety of Belagavi’s citizens.
