Belagavi Member of Parliament Jagadish Shettar met with Shri Umashankar, Secretary of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), to address pressing infrastructure and traffic management concerns in the Belagavi region.
During the high-level meeting, MP Shettar urged the Ministry to permit the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to invite tenders for Package 1 of the Belagavi Bypass project immediately.

He emphasized that waiting for Package 2 and Package 3—both of which involve complex delays—is significantly aggravating traffic congestion in Belagavi city and consuming valuable time for commuters.
Key Issues Raised in the Meeting
- Belagavi Ring Road (Package 1 Acceleration): Request to separate Package 1 tender floating from Packages 2 and 3 so that construction on the critical bypass stretch can begin without further delays, easing urban traffic flow.
- Service Road Connectivity for Farmers: Raised serious concerns regarding local agriculturalists along the Belagavi–Hunagund–Raichur highway stretch who are facing severe connectivity hurdles in accessing their farmlands.
- Dedicated Access: Highlighted the urgent necessity of developing dedicated service roads alongside the highway alignment to ensure safe and unhindered movement for local farmers and rural commuters.
Ministry’s Assurance
MoRTH Secretary Shri Umashankar reviewed the demands submitted by MP Shettar and assured that the Ministry would thoroughly examine the proposals and formulate an appropriate solution at the earliest.
