North Belagavi Industrial Association to Meet Ministers Over Unresolved Civic Woes

The North Belagavi Industries Association (NBIA) has urged the Karnataka government to immediately resolve long-standing civic and administrative challenges plaguing industrial estates in Honaga, Kakati, and Kangrali.

The demands were raised during the association’s Annual General Meeting held at the Maitreyi Hall of the Belagavi Club, presided over by NBIA President Shivakumar N. J. The association represents more than 100 registered members and 300 industrial units that provide direct employment to over 5,000 workers.

Members expressed severe frustration over the deteriorating conditions in the Honaga industrial area, noting that its roads have not seen proper development or resurfacing since they were last asphalted nearly 15 years ago.

The pothole-ridden roads routinely become waterlogged during the monsoon, posing serious safety hazards to workers and the commuting public. The situation is further aggravated by incomplete stormwater drains, leaking water pipelines flooding the roads, and an absence of adequate street lighting.

The association pointed out that frequent, uncoordinated digging by utility agencies laying cables, water pipes, and gas pipelines has worsened road damage due to shoddy post-work restoration. Office-bearers noted that despite repeatedly bringing these issues to the notice of the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB), the District Industries Centre (DIC), and other government bodies, little action has been taken.

Another critical grievance raised at the meeting was that more than 50% of local industrialists lack proper property ownership titles, despite operating their units for over three decades. This administrative bottleneck continues to stall business expansion, deter fresh capital investments, and complicate property transactions. The association emphasized that while the government actively pursues new industrial investments, it must also prioritize the basic operational stability of existing units.

To address these setbacks, NBIA has resolved to lead a delegation to meet relevant ministers and senior government officials to demand a time-bound solution.

Association Secretary Nagendra S. Murthy, Vice President Bonaventure Pinto, Treasurer Santosh Kelageri, and executive committee members Ajit Patil, Amit Bagri, Dheeraj Kanchan, Amrut Koda, Sudhir Darekar, Mohan Reddy, Dayanand Dhongadi, and Hasham Syed attended the meeting.
