Oxford Economics has released its comprehensive Global Cities Index 2026, evaluating the world’s 1,000 largest urban economies across 163 countries. Analysis: Beyond the Capital
The 2026 index highlights an essential structural shift: Karnataka’s growth story is increasingly driven by its Tier-2 hubs.
While Bengaluru maintains international prominence alongside global tech centers, cities like Belagavi, Hubballi-Dharwad, and Mysuru posted notably strong ratings in Environment (scoring between 55.6 and 64.4), outperforming several larger, heavily congested national megacities in air quality, urban green cover, and climate metrics.
With improved highway connectivity, expanding airport infrastructure, and industrial corridor initiatives taking root across North and Coastal Karnataka, these regional cities continue to emerge as attractive destinations for decentralized investment and talent retention.
