Belagavi, April 18: In a significant move to strengthen passenger safety, the South Western Railway (SWR) has installed an advanced X-Ray Baggage Inspection System (X-BIS) at the Belagavi Railway Station.
The new system has been strategically placed at the station’s main entrance to ensure thorough screening of passenger luggage, especially with the upcoming festive season expected to witness increased footfall.
The X-BIS system, which costs more than ₹18 lakh , is equipped with modern imaging technology capable of producing multi-dimensional views of baggage. The scanner uses colour-coded displays on a large screen, allowing security personnel to easily identify different materials and detect potentially dangerous items.
One of the key features of the system is its automatic alert mechanism, which is designed to flag suspicious contents such as explosives or prohibited items. This enables quicker response and enhances overall vigilance at the station.
The system also includes a double-screen display, providing enhanced clarity and enabling detailed inspection of densely packed or wrapped luggage. This feature ensures that even complex baggage arrangements can be scrutinized effectively without compromising accuracy.
With a handling capacity of approximately 300 to 500 bags per hour, the new facility is expected to significantly streamline security checks while maintaining passenger convenience.
