Boosting private clean energy infrastructure, a new 5-megawatt (MW) Havells solar power plant was inaugurated at Itnal village in Yaragatti taluk of Belagavi district.
Built by the Kalyanashetty brothers with an investment of over ₹15 crore across 12.5 acres, the project was officially inaugurated by MLC Lakhan Jarkiholi.
This marks Havells’ second-largest capacity solar park in Karnataka, coming as the second such installation commissioned within just three months. Expanding further, plans are underway to launch four more solar parks across Belagavi district.

Power Transmission & Captive Industrial Use
The power generated by the Itnal solar plant is fed directly to the local electricity substation, which subsequently wheels the power to run the Kalyanashetty brothers’ commercial stone crushing units.
By adopting a captive solar model, the enterprise offsets substantial conventional grid electricity costs while decarbonizing heavy industrial stone-crushing operations. MLC Lakhan Jarkiholi highlighted that such private-sector solar initiatives play a critical role in strengthening local energy self-reliance and supporting Karnataka’s renewable energy targets.
