Karnataka’s First: Belagavi Tests Cost-Effective Modern Technology to Fix Potholes

In a significant move to address the persistent problem of pothole-ridden roads, Belagavi has begun trialling an advanced and cost-effective technology for pothole repairs, marking a first-of-its-kind initiative in Karnataka.

The new road-repair technology was demonstrated on Old PB Road in Belagavi, with civic and administrative officials witnessing the live trial. The demonstration was led by local MLA Abhay Patil, who has been actively pushing for improved road infrastructure in the city.

Belagavi Mayor Preeti Kamkar, Deputy Mayor Hanumant Kongali, MLA Abhay Patil and City Corporation Commissioner Karthik M. were present during the demonstration. Corporators Raju Bhatkande, Girish Dhongadi and Sarika Patil also attended the trial.

Unlike conventional pothole-repair methods, which often involve repeated patchwork and considerable expenditure, the technology being tested is aimed at providing faster, more durable and cost-effective repairs. If successful, it could significantly reduce both the time and resources required for routine road maintenance.

The trial assumes particular importance as Belagavi continues to grapple with damaged roads and potholes across several parts of the city. Officials will assess the quality, durability and overall performance of the repaired stretches before deciding on wider implementation.

If the technology delivers the expected results, civic authorities are likely to consider deploying it on other major roads and corridors across Belagavi.

With Belagavi becoming the testing ground for the technology in Karnataka, the initiative could potentially establish a new benchmark for efficient and modern road maintenance in the state, while helping civic bodies reduce maintenance costs and improve road quality for motorists.
