The Belagavi district administration has initiated land acquisition to convert the road connecting Belagavi city with Belagavi Airport into a four-lane corridor (SH-20), alongside acquiring additional land for the airport’s upcoming expansion.
A survey is currently underway to identify parcels required for the airport’s broader development. Officials confirmed that ₹10 crore has been earmarked to expedite compensation and land takeover for the road project.
“The existing road will be widened into a four-lane road, and there is minimal need for land acquisition,” Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Roshan said. “We will expedite the land acquisition process. We have around ₹10 crore for the acquisition, and work on the road will begin soon after.”
The upgrade aims to accommodate rising passenger traffic and support surging industrial activity around Sambra. While the stretch between Gandhi Nagar and Mutaga has already been widened, construction on the final stretch from Mutaga to Sambra will commence once land clearances conclude.
Officials expect the improved four-lane corridor to ease airport commutes, reduce bottlenecks, and accelerate commercial growth across the Belagavi-Sambra belt.
