In a major step toward modernizing the region’s aviation infrastructure, the construction of Belagavi Airport’s highly anticipated New Terminal Building (NTB) (Terminal-2) recently underwent a rigorous comprehensive site inspection led by Sh. S. Vinayagamoorthy, General Manager (Engineering) for the Airports Authority of India (AAI).
The high-level visit focused on evaluating physical infrastructure, assessing structural progress, and ensuring stringent quality benchmarks as the project approaches its final stages of completion.

Accompanied by a dedicated contingent of AAI Engineers and core representatives from the project’s construction agency, KMV Projects Limited, Sh. Vinayagamoorthy conducted a thorough walk-through of the terminal footprint. The joint review emphasized critical aspects of the engineering workflow:
- Infrastructure Audit: Evaluating the finish and resilience of the structural framework.
- Quality Assurance: Confirming adherence to global safety and material standards prescribed by the AAI.
- Operational Readiness: Planning a strategic, seamless operational transition from the existing terminal to the massive new complex.
Transforming Belagavi’s Aviation Capacity
The upcoming expansion marks a massive leap forward for the Sambra-based airport, scaling up its infrastructure to handle projected regional traffic demands through 2037.
The mega-project scales up the current 3,600 \text{ sq. m.} setup to a vast 20,000 \text{ sq. m.} facility. Once completed, the existing building will be intelligently repurposed exclusively for incoming passenger arrivals, while the sprawling new build-out handles outbound traffic.
Alongside a peak capacity jump to 2,400 passengers at any given time, ongoing apron expansions will allow the tarmac to hold up to 12 narrow-body aircraft simultaneously—including larger models like the Airbus A321.
Following the successful engineering evaluation, project coordinators and stakeholders remain focused on clearing final testing and interior fit-outs ahead of the upcoming grand commissioning.
