Air traffic at Belagavi Airport (IXG) continues its upward trajectory for the calendar year 2026. According to the latest monthly traffic statistics released by the Airports Authority of India (AAI), April 2026 registered substantial growth across passenger traffic, aircraft movements, and freight handling compared to the preceding months.
Passenger Traffic Surges Post-Fiscal Year End
Belagavi Airport welcomed 28,116 passengers in April 2026, marking a notable increase from the 25,270 passengers recorded in March. The surge in passenger volume was well-supported by increased flight operational frequency.
The airport recorded 429 aircraft movements (take-offs and landings) during the month, up from 350 movements in March.
Cargo Volume Reaches New High
On the logistics front, freight operations at Sambra experienced a significant boost. The airport handled 2.8 Metric Tonnes (MT) of cargo in April 2026. This is the highest monthly cargo volume recorded so far this year, reflecting a growing reliance by local industrial units and trade bodies on Belagavi’s air freight capabilities.
Month-on-Month Air Traffic Analysis (2026)
With the addition of the newly released AAI data, here is how Belagavi Airport’s performance looks for the first four months of the year:
| Month | Passenger Data | Aircraft Movement | Cargo (MT) |
| Jan-2026 | 21,645 | 327 | 0.9 |
| Feb-2026 | 22,578 | 302 | 0.4 |
| Mar-2026 | 25,270 | 350 | 2.3 |
| Apr-2026 | 28,116 | 429 | 2.8 |
Infrastructure Expansion to Support Rising Demand
The continuous monthly growth comes amidst steady progress on the airport’s major airside and terminal upgrades. Work is ongoing on the Terminal 2 (T2) expansion project, aimed at scaling up peak-hour capacity to handle 2,400 passengers. Furthermore, the expansion of the current parking apron to 12 bays will allow the airport to sustain larger commercial jets and accommodate more airline operations, keeping pace with the city’s growing transit requirements.
