Minister Laxmi Hebbalkar Debuts as Film Producer; ‘Anna from Mexico’ Teaser Unveiled

BENGALURU – In a significant move that bridges the worlds of Karnataka politics and cinema, Women and Child Development Minister & MLA Belagavi Rural Lakshmi Hebbalkar has officially entered the Kannada film industry as a producer.

At a high-profile event held at a private hotel in Bengaluru, the Minister released the teaser for her debut production venture, Anna from Mexico, produced under the Aira Films (Aira Productions) banner.

Speaking at the launch, Hebbalkar expressed her deep-rooted connection to Sandalwood. “The Kannada film industry has a rich legacy, and I deeply love Kannada cinema,” she stated. “We have grown up watching these movies; the industry is culturally rich, and I hope to produce films with meaningful content, including social and family-oriented themes.”

A Family Venture into Sandalwood

The production house, Aira Films, is named after the Minister’s granddaughter, signaling a personal investment in the industry. The project also sees the involvement of her brother, MLC Channaraj Hattiholi, who is co-producing the film. Hebbalkar emphasized her commitment to the craft, noting that she aspires to produce “bigger and more impactful films” in the future.

Star-Studded Launch

The teaser launch was attended by several prominent figures from the Kannada film fraternity and political landscape:

  • Lead Cast: ‘Daali’ Dhananjaya and Reeshma Nanaiah.
  • Creative Team: Director Shankar Guru, Music Director Vasuki Vaibhav, and Actor Nagabhushana.
  • Dignitaries: MLA Nayana Motamma, Co-producer Satya Royal, Divya from Z Studios, and Shyam from Anand Audio.

Addressing Industry Challenges

Beyond her role as a producer, Minister Hebbalkar reiterated her support for the growth of the local industry. She mentioned plans to discuss censorship-related issues with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to ensure a smoother environment for filmmakers, expressing a desire to see the Kannada film industry grow even stronger on the national stage.

Anna from Mexico, which reflects a “fresh and meaningful” approach to storytelling according to the Minister, has already generated significant buzz. With its teaser now public, the film is poised to be one of the most anticipated releases of the year.
