In a major step towards expanding urban infrastructure, the Karnataka Housing Board (KHB) has proposed the development of a new residential layout over 92 acres and 7 guntas in Honnihal village near Belagavi.
The proposed site is located around 18 km from the city, and the project aims to address the increasing demand for planned housing in the region. The proposal has been submitted to the state government, and further steps will be initiated after receiving approval.
According to officials, the layout will be developed in Survey Nos. 43/1 to 43/6 of Honnihal village, an area that is gradually emerging as a growth corridor on the outskirts of the city. The project is expected to provide affordable housing options while also boosting infrastructure development in nearby areas.
This will be one of the first major residential layouts by KHB in Belagavi in recent years. The last significant development by the board in the city was the Devaraj Urs Colony at Basavan Kudachi, undertaken nearly a decade ago.
The land required for the project will be acquired under the provisions of the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013. Officials have stated that landowners will be provided compensation along with rehabilitation and resettlement benefits as per the Act.
Following government approval, the Board is expected to issue a preliminary notification within 5 to 6 months, inviting objections and suggestions from the public before proceeding further.
