Davanagere: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) has successfully cracked a case involving stone-pelting at trains operating between the Byadgi and Haveri railway stations.
The incident, which occurred on May 28, 2026, targeted Train No. 20675 and Train No. 26752 (Bengaluru-Belagavi Vande Bharat Express) during both daytime and evening hours.
CCTV Footage Leads to Apprehension
Following a detailed investigation, a special surveillance operation was launched on May 30, 2026. The operation was conducted under the supervision of Mr. R.K. Bhardwaj (PC/Davanagere), alongside Mr. N.G. Nayak (ASI/Harihar) and their team. Crucial leads were obtained by analyzing CCTV footage from the Vande Bharat Express.
During the operation, at around 5:05 PM, authorities spotted three boys near Km No. 381/500 between the Byadgi and Haveri stations. Their physical descriptions closely matched the suspects caught on the train’s security cameras.
Confession and Legal Action
Upon questioning at the spot, the minors confessed to pelting stones at the high-speed trains on May 28.
The boys were initially taken to the Harihar RPF Outpost for further questioning and were subsequently handed over to the Davanagere RPF Post for formal legal proceedings.
They were later released after being served a notice under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), which mandates their appearance before the court whenever required. The investigating officers have been formally briefed on the development.
RPF Issues Appeal to Parents
In light of the incident, the Railway Protection Force has issued a serious appeal to the general public, particularly urging parents and guardians to educate their children about the severe legal consequences and safety risks associated with stone-pelting. Such acts pose a massive threat to passenger safety and disrupt vital railway operations.
