Belagavi’s long-awaited flyover project is expected to enter the construction phase by the end of September, with the tender process for the first phase currently underway.
The announcement was made by Deputy Commissioner Mohammed Roshan during a review meeting held at the Deputy Commissioner’s office.
The Deputy Commissioner said that the Public Works Department (PWD) has floated a ₹270 crore tender for the first phase of the project. The tender will remain open until August, after which the bidding process will be completed and a contractor will be appointed in September.
The administration aims to begin construction by the end of September, or within the following two months.
Roshan stated that the project estimate includes the cost of utility shifting, covering the relocation of HESCOM power lines, water supply pipelines and sewage lines falling within the flyover corridor.
Around ₹20 crore has been earmarked for these works to ensure smooth execution of the project.
Addressing environmental concerns, the Deputy Commissioner clarified that trees affected by the project will not be indiscriminately cut. Instead, as many trees as possible will be transplanted to nearby government or public land within a 1–2 km radius.
He pointed out that around 35 trees were successfully transplanted during the Boxite Road widening project, and the same approach will be adopted for the flyover project.
To minimise inconvenience during construction, the district administration, Police Commissionerate and the Public Works Department are jointly preparing a comprehensive traffic management plan.
The project includes provisions for temporary roads, barricading and traffic diversion arrangements, with ₹3 crore allocated for these measures.
The Deputy Commissioner also announced that preparations are underway for the second phase of the flyover project. A tender worth approximately ₹250 crore is expected to be floated later this year.
The design for the second phase is in its final stages and is likely to be submitted to the State Cabinet for approval within the next two to three months.
Roshan further said that a broad consultation meeting involving citizens, traders, industrial representatives and other stakeholders will soon be organised to ensure the project progresses with minimal disruption.
The administration aims to complete the ambitious infrastructure project within the planned timeline through coordinated efforts among all concerned departments.
The review meeting was attended by Police Commissioner Bhushan Borase, Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Rahul Shinde, along with senior officials from the Belagavi City Corporation, HESCOM, Forest Department, Public Works Department and other concerned departments.
