Belagavi district has emerged as one of Karnataka’s top-performing districts in the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, with more than 33.10 lakh voter enumeration forms digitised out of the district’s 41.07 lakh registered voters.
Addressing a press conference on Friday, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Roshan said that 33,10,399 forms have already been digitised, taking Belagavi’s digitisation rate to over 80%, significantly higher than the State average of around 70%.
“The digitisation rate in Belagavi is higher than the State average. Our officers have managed to achieve this despite Belagavi being one of Karnataka’s largest districts,” the Deputy Commissioner said.
16 Constituencies Cross 80% Mark
According to the Deputy Commissioner, 16 Assembly constituencies in Belagavi district have recorded more than 80% digitisation.
However, progress remains comparatively lower in the city’s two Assembly segments:
- Belagavi South: Around 65% digitisation completed.
- Belagavi North: Around 59% digitisation completed.
The next major milestone in the electoral revision process will be the publication of the draft electoral rolls on August 18. Eligible citizens whose names are missing can apply for inclusion by submitting Form 6.
BLOs and BLAs Working Together
Mohammad Roshan said that, following the directions of the Election Commission of India and the Chief Electoral Officer of Karnataka, political party representatives have been regularly updated on the progress of the SIR exercise.
He noted that Booth Level Officers (BLOs) are coordinating closely with Booth Level Agents (BLAs) to:
- Remove names of deceased voters.
- Shift voter registrations of those who have moved within or outside Assembly constituencies.
- Ensure the electoral rolls remain accurate and updated.
No Formal Request for Marathi Forms
Responding to queries regarding the demand from Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti (MES) leaders for voter enumeration forms in Marathi, the Deputy Commissioner clarified that no formal request has been received.
He added that BLOs are carrying election-related instructions in multiple languages to help explain the process to voters wherever required.
100% Distribution of Enumeration Forms
Meanwhile, Belagavi City Corporation Commissioner and Chief Electoral Registration Officer Karthik M. reviewed the progress of the SIR exercise during a meeting with officials and political representatives.
He stated that 100% of voter enumeration forms have been distributed through door-to-door visits by BLOs. While form submission is taking longer in some areas, greater coordination with BLAs is expected to speed up the process.
He also informed that requests for transferring voter names between polling booths will be accepted until August 8.
The review meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioners Siddu Hulloli and Udayakumar T., Mayor Preeti Kamakar, Deputy Mayor Hanamant Kongali, Belagavi City Corporation members, BLAs, and other officials.
