Following a surge in unregistered and non-compliant vehicles plying across city roads, the Belagavi City Police have launched a special enforcement drive targeting two-wheelers operating without registration plates or with defective and tampered number displays.
105 Vehicles Intercepted in Special Drive
During the initial phase of the operation, police personnel intercepted 105 two-wheelers across key traffic junctions in the city limits. The offending vehicles were flagged for a range of violations, including:
- Complete absence of registration number plates (front or rear).
- Deliberate masking, bending, or altering of registration numbers.
- Missing single plates (operating with only a front or rear plate).
Police officials thoroughly inspected the documentation of all intercepted vehicles, levied fines under the Motor Vehicles Act, and conducted awareness sessions for riders regarding traffic compliance. In all cases, the seized vehicles were released only after the owners installed valid, regulation-compliant number plates.
Note on Compliance: Masking or removing number plates is a serious infraction under the Motor Vehicles Act, often used to evade automated traffic enforcement cameras or conceal identity during offenses.
Strict Action to Continue
The Belagavi City Commissioner of Police emphasized that this drive is not a one-time initiative. Law enforcement officers will continue strict surveillance and inspections in the coming days across all urban limits to penalize offenders.
The Police Commissioner has urged all motor vehicle owners and riders to adhere strictly to traffic safety guidelines and ensure their vehicles display clear, standard-compliant registration plates at both the front and back.
