In response to continuous heavy rainfall and rising water levels across several parts of the district, the Belagavi District Administration has officially declared a holiday for schools and Anganwadi centers on Wednesday, July 8, 2026.
The official order was issued by the Deputy Commissioner and Chairperson of the District Disaster Management Authority, Belagavi, following separate assessment reports submitted by the Department of School Education and the Department of Women and Child Welfare.
Areas Affected by the Order
The school holiday applies strictly to the following regions within the Belagavi district:
- Belagavi City
- Belagavi Rural
- Khanapur Taluk
- Nippani Taluk
Scope of the Holiday
The closure is applicable to all Anganwadi centers, as well as Government, Aided, and Unaided Primary and High Schools (up to Class 10).
Reason for Closure
According to the official communication, the region has been experiencing relentless torrential downpours. Rivers, streams, and local water bodies are overflowing, with floodwaters breaching several bridges and roads. Given the severely disrupted transport routes and waterlogging, the administration deemed it unsafe for students to travel. The decision was taken as a proactive safety measure under Section 34(m) of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, to ensure the safety of young children.
Compensation for Lost Academic Day
The Deputy Commissioner has directed the Deputy Director of Public Instruction (DDPI) and the Deputy Director of the Women and Child Welfare Department to ensure strict compliance with the order. Furthermore, schools have been instructed to conduct extra classes in the coming days to make up for the lost academic hours.
