The Belagavi district administration has initiated comprehensive preparations for Karnataka Rajyotsava on November 1, with Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Roshan directing officials to ensure the border city’s festivities serve as a benchmark for the entire state.
Chairing an extensive three-and-a-half-hour preparatory meeting on Thursday, DC Roshan emphasized widespread public participation in the upcoming state formation day celebrations. The meeting brought together senior police personnel, key administrative officials, and representatives from approximately 57 Kannada organisations.
Citywide Amenities and Festivities
With footfall expected to run into the lakhs, the administration has ordered the illumination of major thoroughfares and civic hubs across Belagavi. Key logistics discussed during the review included:
- Civic Infrastructure: Seamless provision of mobile toilets and clean drinking water stations along major gathering corridors.
- Core Events: Structured execution of the official flag hoisting, ceremonial parade, dynamic tableaux displays, and traditional cultural performances.
- Honours: Formal felicitation of prominent Kannada activists and figures who have made notable contributions to the language and regional culture.
Clear Stance on Law and Order
Addressing law and order considerations, DC Roshan made it clear that permission will not be granted to the Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti (MES) to observe “Black Day” on November 1. Noting that unauthorized observances had occurred over the last three years, he reiterated that police had previously booked violators and that strict enforcement would continue to preserve peace and order.
School Mandate and Key Proposals
In a decisive move regarding border schools, the Deputy Commissioner announced that Karnataka Rajyotsava celebrations will be compulsory across all schools located in border taluks. Block Education Officers (BEOs) and school administrators must ensure full compliance and submit photographic documentation directly to the district administration.
Several prominent cultural and infrastructural proposals were also tabled during the review:
- 108-Foot Statue of Goddess Bhuvaneshwari: The administration confirmed that a formal proposal to erect a 108-foot statue of Goddess Bhuvaneshwari opposite the Suvarna Vidhana Soudha will be submitted to the government during the upcoming winter legislative session.
- Demands from Kannada Outfits: Representatives requested the deployment of special trains running between Bengaluru and Belagavi for three days, the local display of Belagavi’s Mysuru Dasara tableau, an annual government cultural grant of Rs 1 crore, and strict enforcement of bilingual signboards.
