Belagavi Winter Session Likely to Begin December 7; North Karnataka Issues in Focus

The Karnataka Legislature’s 10-day winter session is tentatively scheduled to commence on December 7, 2026, at the Suvarna Vidhana Soudha in Belagavi, with preparations expected to begin following a communication from the state government.

Karnataka Chief Secretary Shalini Rajneesh has reportedly informed the Karnataka Legislative Council Secretariat about the tentative schedule and directed officials to initiate the necessary administrative and logistical arrangements for the smooth conduct of the session.

According to the communication, the proposal to hold the winter session in Belagavi was discussed during the State Cabinet meeting held on October 15, 2026. The tentative schedule envisages a 10-day sitting of both Houses of the Karnataka Legislature at the Suvarna Vidhana Soudha.

North Karnataka Issues Likely to Take Centre Stage

The upcoming session is expected to bring renewed focus on several long-standing issues affecting North Karnataka, with legislators likely to raise concerns related to regional development, agriculture and public infrastructure.

Key issues expected to feature in discussions include drought relief measures, irrigation projects, agricultural distress, employment opportunities, industrial development, road connectivity, healthcare facilities, education and drinking water shortages.

The session is also likely to provide an important platform for legislators from North Karnataka to highlight regional disparities and seek government intervention on pending development projects and public grievances.

Belagavi to Host the Legislature Again

The winter session at Suvarna Vidhana Soudha is an important part of Karnataka’s efforts to bring legislative proceedings closer to the northern districts of the state. The annual sitting draws the attention of public representatives, officials and citizens to the region’s development priorities.

With the proposed December 7 commencement date, government departments and the local administration are expected to coordinate arrangements relating to security, accommodation, transport and other logistical requirements.

The December 7 start date remains tentative, and the final schedule is subject to official confirmation by the state government and the legislature.

The session is expected to be closely watched across North Karnataka, particularly for announcements and discussions concerning regional development, infrastructure projects and measures to address the concerns of farmers and the general public.
