Goods Sheds Planned Along Belagavi–Dharwad, Bagalkot–Kudachi Railway Lines

In a major boost to North Karnataka’s transportation and logistics infrastructure, South Western Railway (SWR) has announced plans to establish goods sheds and freight handling facilities along several upcoming railway corridors, including the strategically important Belagavi–Dharwad and Bagalkot–Kudachi railway lines.

The initiative aims to improve freight movement, support local industries, and stimulate economic growth in the regions served by these new railway projects. Railway officials believe that developing cargo-handling infrastructure alongside new rail lines will help maximize their economic potential from the outset.

The proposed Belagavi–Dharwad railway line via Kittur is expected to significantly enhance connectivity between two of North Karnataka’s major economic and educational centres. Once operational, the route will provide a shorter and more efficient link for transporting industrial goods, agricultural produce, and commercial freight. The planned goods sheds are expected to facilitate easier loading and unloading of cargo while encouraging the growth of warehousing and logistics services along the corridor.

Similarly, the Bagalkot–Kudachi railway project is expected to transform freight transportation across the Krishna basin region. The line will improve access to the Mumbai–Bengaluru railway network and provide industries, traders, and farmers with faster and more economical transport options. Goods sheds along the route are expected to support the movement of sugar, agricultural commodities, minerals, and other products produced in the region.

According to railway authorities, the development of freight infrastructure on these corridors will create new opportunities for businesses, reduce transportation costs, and attract investment in logistics and manufacturing sectors. The facilities are also expected to generate employment and strengthen regional supply chains.
