BELAGAVI: The Deputy Commissioner of Belagavi has issued an official order prohibiting vehicle movement on a key stretch of the Khanapur-Jamboti State Highway (SH-31) to facilitate urgent roadwork.
Duration of Closure
The restriction will be in effect for a period of six days, starting from April 30, 2026, to May 5, 2026.
Reason for Restriction
The closure is necessitated by the “Resurfacing to Jath Jamboti SH-31” project, specifically covering the section from Km 203.80 to Km 219.00 in Khanapur Taluka. Officials noted that a specific stretch (Km 209.54 to Km 219.00) is only 3.75 meters wide with insufficient shoulders, making it impossible to carry out tarring work while maintaining regular traffic flow.
Diversion Route
Commuters traveling from Khanapur are advised to use the following alternative route during the closure period:
- Alternative Route : Khanapur → Peeranwadi → Kusumalli → Jamboti.
Official Directives
Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Roshan (IAS) has directed the Belagavi City Police Commissioner and the District Superintendent of Police to enforce this order. Key enforcement measures include:
- Establishment of police check-posts to prevent heavy vehicle entry.
- Installation of mandatory signboards along the diversion routes to guide motorists.
- Instructions to the National Highway Division to complete the resurfacing work within the stipulated 6-day timeframe.
- The Regional Transport Office (RTO) and KSRTC divisional controllers have also been notified to adjust public transport schedules accordingly.
