Construction work on the much-awaited flyover aimed at decongesting key traffic bottlenecks across Belagavi is likely to begin this October, with preparatory operations gaining significant momentum following the completion of the tender process.
According to Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Roshan, preliminary technical groundwork is progressing swiftly. Soil testing and geological investigations are actively being conducted along the proposed flyover corridor, focusing primarily on critical traffic zones including College Road and Court Road.
The data gathered from these tests will guide the technical design and structural execution before heavy on-ground civil work commences.
Focus on Green Conservation
Alongside engineering preparations, local authorities are prioritizing environmental safeguards along the project route:
- Tree Survey Completed: A comprehensive survey along the corridor has concluded.
- Reduction in Relocation: While initial blueprints proposed transplanting approximately 126 trees, officials are actively reviewing alternatives to preserve the majority of them in place.
- Forest Department Directives: The Forest Department has been instructed to apply tree-conservation practices wherever technically viable.
- Targeted Adjustments: DC Roshan confirmed that the administration plans to prune branches and implement minor structural adjustments to save standing trees without compromising the flyover’s design or timeline.
Roshan emphasized that sustainable urban infrastructure remains the administration’s primary goal, balancing long-term traffic relief with environmental preservation. Full-scale construction is expected to roll out immediately following the conclusion of technical investigations.
