Centre Approves ₹15 Crore for Major Road Upgrades in Belagavi

In a significant boost to regional infrastructure, the Central government has sanctioned ₹15 crore for the improvement of three major roads in the Belagavi Lok Sabha constituency. The funds have been allocated under the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund (CRIF) and will cover a total distance of nearly 22 km.

Member of Parliament (MP) Jagadish Shettar welcomed the decision, confirming in a press statement on Monday that the funds were approved by Nitin Gadkari, the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways. The approval comes in response to a formal request made by Shettar to repair and upgrade deteriorating road stretches in the constituency.

Phased Development Details

The current sanction represents the first phase of a larger infrastructure push. A few months ago, Shettar met with Union Minister Gadkari in New Delhi to submit a comprehensive proposal seeking approval for nine road development works spanning 80.33 km, with an estimated total cost of ₹86.40 crore. Acting on this proposal, the Centre has greenlit three key projects for immediate implementation.
The breakdown of the sanctioned ₹15 crore for the phase-one works includes:

  • ₹8 Crore: Allocated for the improvement of the 12-km Desur–Nandihalli–Kukadolli road in Belagavi taluk.
  • ₹4 Crore: Designated for the 5-km Bijagarni–Kavalewadi–Janewadi–Karle–Bahaddurwadi–Kiniye road, which connects to State Highway-54.
  • ₹3 Crore: Earmarked for a 5-km stretch from Chivatgundi Cross to Chivatgundi in Bailhongal taluk.

Impact on Local Commuters

Expressing his satisfaction with the development, MP Shettar noted that these projects would significantly enhance road connectivity, directly benefiting local residents, commuters, and the farming community in the region.

He extended his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari for responding positively to the constituency’s infrastructure demands.

Shettar also expressed confidence that the remaining six road proposals submitted in the original plan would receive favorable consideration from the Centre in the coming months.
