The Railway Protection Force (RPF) launched a strict enforcement drive at the world-famous Dudhsagar Waterfalls on Sunday, July 5, 2026, apprehending dozens of tourists who risked their lives by trekking along active railway tracks.
During the special operation, RPF personnel from the Hubballi Division caught 32 tourists who had illegally entered prohibited railway zones and trespassed onto the tracks to get closer to the scenic waterfalls.
The offenders were booked under Section 147 of the Railways Act, as amended by the Jan Vishwas Act. A total fine of ₹16,000 was collectively imposed on the violators
A Perilous Trek
Dudhsagar Falls, located on the border of Goa and Karnataka, is a massive tourist attraction, particularly during the monsoon season when the waterfall swells to its full glory. However, the popularity of the site has long clashed with railway safety.
Because the falls sit directly adjacent to the active Braganza Ghat railway section, many tourists attempt to walk along the narrow tracks and bridges to catch a glimpse of the water. The practice is incredibly hazardous due to steep terrain, frequent train movements, and slippery monsoon conditions.
SWR Issues Safety Advisory
Following the drive, South Western Railway (SWR) issued a stern warning to the public, reiterating that unauthorized entry into prohibited railway areas and walking on active tracks is both heavily illegal and highly dangerous.
“Tourists and members of the public are requested to strictly adhere to railway safety regulations and cooperate with the Railways in ensuring safe train operations,” an SWR official stated.
The RPF has indicated that similar surprise checks and enforcement drives will continue throughout the monsoon season to deter trespassers and prevent fatal accidents on the tracks.
