Helmet Compliance Reaches 91.8% in Belagavi After Intensive Police Awareness Drive

The Belagavi City Police’s intensive helmet awareness and enforcement campaign has delivered impressive results, with a post-drive survey revealing that 91.8% of two-wheeler riders are now wearing helmets, marking a significant improvement in compliance with road safety norms.

Addressing the media, Belagavi Police Commissioner Bhushan Borse said the survey was conducted after a week-long special drive aimed at promoting helmet usage and reducing fatalities caused by road accidents. The campaign combined public awareness activities, counseling of riders, strict enforcement, and coordination with various stakeholders to encourage compliance.

The survey was carried out at two major traffic junctions in the city — Ramdev Circle and Globe Circle. During the exercise, police observed a total of 2,820 two-wheeler riders, of whom 2,589 were found wearing helmets, resulting in an overall compliance rate of 91.8%.

The survey found that helmet compliance at Ramdev Circle stood at 91.3%, while Globe Circle recorded a slightly higher compliance rate of 92.2%, indicating widespread acceptance of the safety measure among commuters.

Police officials attributed the encouraging results to sustained awareness campaigns and strict enforcement against traffic violators. As part of the drive, officers educated riders on the importance of helmets in preventing serious head injuries and saving lives during accidents. The campaign also reinforced initiatives such as “No Helmet, No Fuel“, aimed at further improving adherence to helmet regulations.

Commissioner Borse noted that the survey results demonstrate a positive change in public behaviour towards road safety. Apart from increased helmet usage, officials have also observed better compliance with other traffic rules in recent weeks.

The City Police emphasized that wearing a helmet is not merely a legal requirement but a crucial safety practice that significantly reduces the risk of fatal injuries in road accidents. Authorities have appealed to all riders and pillion passengers to continue wearing helmets every time they travel.

Belagavi City Police have stated that awareness programmes, enforcement drives, and road safety initiatives will continue across the city to further improve compliance levels and ensure safer roads for all citizens.

The achievement is being viewed as a major success for the Belagavi City Police and a significant step towards building a stronger culture of road safety in the city.
