The Belagavi City Corporation has launched the Swachh Survekshan campaign under the Government of India’s Swachh Bharat Mission to collect citizens’ feedback on sanitation, waste management, and civic services across the city.
Addressing reporters at the corporation office on Wednesday, executive engineer of the environmental division Hanumant Kaladagi said the initiative aims to strengthen urban cleanliness standards through active public participation. He noted that the Swachh Bharat Mission, introduced in 2016, encourages urban local bodies to improve sanitation systems with the support and feedback of residents.
Kaladagi said the campaign is being conducted under the guidance of BCC commissioner Kartik M and that nearly 16,000 citizens have already submitted their responses. The corporation is now aiming to gather feedback from at least five per cent of the city’s total population as part of the survey target prescribed under the national programme.
The Swachh Survekshan survey consists of five questions focusing on important civic issues, including waste collection, cleanliness of surroundings, and maintenance of public toilets. Residents can participate by scanning a QR code linked to the survey application and submitting their responses online.
To increase awareness and participation, BCC teams are visiting educational institutions, commercial areas, offices, and other public places across the city to assist people in completing the survey.
Appealing to citizens for cooperation, Kaladagi urged residents to actively participate either through the mobile application or by interacting with field teams. He emphasised that greater public involvement would help improve civic services and enhance Belagavi’s ranking in the national cleanliness survey.
