In a major boost to Karnataka’s defence manufacturing ecosystem, precision engineering firm Balu Forge Industries Ltd (BFIL) has scaled its total investment commitment in the state to over ₹800 crore, quadrupling its original commitment of ₹200 crore.
The announcement followed a high-level review meeting during Mumbai Road Show between Karnataka’s Minister for Large & Medium Industries and Infrastructure Development, MB Patil, and Balu Forge Executive Directors Trimaan Chandock and Jaikaran Chandock.
Key Highlights of the Expansion
- Investment Surge: Initial commitments of ₹200 crore for the greenfield facility in Kakti, Belagavi, have expanded fourfold to over ₹800 crore.
- NATO Supply Chain Entry: The company’s recent approval into the NATO defence supply chain opens global corridors for high-precision defence components and large-calibre ammunition shells manufactured in Belagavi.
- Next-Gen Defence Energetics: Discussions covered Balu Forge’s prospective ventures into defence energetics and advanced ammunition production within Karnataka.
Strengthening Belagavi’s Defence Hub
Balu Forge’s 46+ acre integrated manufacturing campus at Kakti, Belagavi, has emerged as a crucial node for advanced engineering and aerospace components. The company’s onboarding onto the NATO supply chain enables direct exports of critical equipment—including forged artillery shell bodies and precision defence components—to international partners.
Speaking on the partnership, Minister MB Patil reiterated the state government’s commitment to facilitating industrial growth:
“Great to see their Karnataka investment grow to ₹800+ crore against an initial ₹200 crore commitment, and their new NATO supply chain approval opening doors for defence exports from Belagavi. Karnataka will continue to support and facilitate this partnership.”

The expansion aligns with Karnataka’s broader strategy to position regional industrial clusters like Belagavi as hubs for defence, aerospace, and precision machining. Beyond manufacturing artillery components, the upcoming ventures into defence energetics and ammunition are expected to generate high-skilled engineering jobs and bolster local ancillary industries across North Karnataka.
