Jagadish Shettar, Member of Parliament for Belagavi, has formally urged IndiGo airlines to restore daily, twice-daily flight services between Bengaluru and Belagavi. The request follows a recent schedule change that has significantly curtailed air connectivity to the city.
In a letter dated June 16, 2026, addressed to Sri Varun Dwivedi, Vice President and Head of Domestic Operations at IndiGo, the former Chief Minister of Karnataka highlighted the adverse impact of the airline’s new operational plan, which took effect on June 16.
Impact of Rescheduled Services
Prior to the recent changes, IndiGo operated two daily flights—one in the morning and one in the evening—providing seamless connectivity for the region. Under the new schedule, the frequency has been reduced:
- Morning Service: IndiGo flights 6E-7285/7286 now operate only four days a week (Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday).
- Evening Service: IndiGo flights 6E-7226/7239 now operate only three days a week (Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday).
Mr. Shettar emphasized that this reduction has “immensely” affected daily commuters, including doctors, lawyers, business professionals, political leaders, and state-level government officers who rely heavily on these routes for business and governance.
Strategic Importance of Connectivity
The MP stressed that Belagavi is both educationally forward and industrially well-developed. Furthermore, the city hosts the “Suvarna Vidhana Soudha,” where sessions of the State Assembly and Council are conducted.
“Given that the route is proven to be commercially very viable,” Mr. Shettar noted in his appeal, the current rescheduling creates unnecessary hardship for citizens. He has urged the airline to restore the previous schedule of one flight in the morning and one in the evening every day in the interest of public convenience.
As of now, there has been no formal response from IndiGo regarding the request to revert to the previous flight frequency.
